What Happens When Someone looses Their Memory

Imagine carrying on a conversation and not being able to remember what you just said. That happens to my mom sometimes. She gets frustrated, but then she continues to try to remember whatever it is she was saying.

I listened to her talk today as I filled her pill tray, and she would stop in the middle of a sentence and just stare in to space. It sometimes bothered me but, I didn’t let her know because she might get a little discourage.

The Aricept and Namenda medicine prescription helps a little I believe but I think prayer helps even more.

One day soon, I believe there will be a cure for this awful disease. But until then, we can only hope and pray for the best. It’s a sad thing to loose your memory. Sometimes our memories are all we have left of relationships, marriages, kids, and life itself.

Cherish every moment of your life as thought it were your last.

It’s been awhile since my last entry. I’ve been busy working and taking care of things I deem important. Things such as my job, mom and dad, and trying just to remain sane.

Mom is still being mom and I wouldn’t have her any other way. Well, I mean I would like to have her with her memory as it was before the Alzheimer set in, but she’s still mom and I love her very dearly.

Taking care of elderly parents can be a task if you think of it in that way. I try to think of it as being what I would want someone to do for me if I ever needed the same care that they need.

I never knew alot about dementia and it’s effect on a person’s life before now. But, I am learning every day new things that this aweful disease can do to a family.

I do know however, that it takes a lot of love and patience to deal with the every day ins and outs of caring for your loved ones with dimentia or any other illness.

Love conquers all!

Mom called tonight to ask if I would take her to a free clinic at the local church. I would have been glad to take her except the clinic was held last month December 5th 2007 and not tomorrow.

Mom has been diagnosed with dementia and sometimes forget things. Sometimes it gets a bit difficult to talk with her when she doesn’t remember things. It’s almost like talking to another person. I try desperately to humor her and not let her know that I am upset by her lack of memory. I basically try to encourage her when she says things like “I must be losing my mind!”. I simply say things like “you can’t be, feel your head, it’s still there isn’t it? When she touches her head, she finally says things like, “Oh you’re so crazy”.

But love conquers even alzheimer.
